JAS has recently built a new state-of-the-art GDP certified Pharma & Healthcare warehouse in Singapore.
JAS Opens Pharma & Healthcare Warehouse in Singapore

JAS Worldwide has commenced operations in a new Pharma and Healthcare dedicated warehouse in Singapore to further expand its offerings to customers in the industry. The facility is certified to both GDP standards and has Singapore's Health Sciences Authority's GDPMDS certification.

The newly constructed state-of-the-art warehouse was designed for pharma products and medical devices from inception. Therefore, there is a 1290 m2 CRT(controlled room temperature) spread across two chambers maintained at +15 to+25°C. Additionally, inside the facility are three Cold rooms totaling 260 m2. These rooms are designed to handle temperature requirements of +2 to +8°C. There is also the capability to handle ambient and deep frozen (-20°C) storage.

As a dedicated Pharma & Healthcare facility, there is the ability to perform a range of value-added services from secondary repackaging and relabeling to last-mile delivery. Furthermore, the facility is strategically located within 45 minutes of both airport and seaports, allowing for quick access, thus acting as both a local distribution point and a Regional Distribution Centre for the area.

"We are very pleased to announce the opening of our new location in Singapore. The market is expected to double in size by 2029, and we target to support clients in the Pharma & Healthcare industry with innovative and digital solutions," says Marc Michelmann, Managing Director, JAS Singapore. "With operations led by GDP-trained staff, this new facility gives clients access to the safe and efficient cold chain handling necessary to meet the industry's most stringent regulatory requirements."

The facility highlights JAS' continued dedication to its customers and the rapidly growing Pharma & Healthcare industry. "With its prime location, capacity, and ability to serve a range of different temperature storage requirements, the newly opened facility allows us to grow alongside our customers as we continue to meet the region's ever-growing demand," comments Derek Lee, Vice President Pharma & Healthcare, Asia Pacific.

With a growing network of 35 GDP-certified branches across the globe, JAS has made significant investments in people, digital technology, and infrastructure in support of its strategy to provide the best quality logistics services for customers of the pharma and healthcare industry.

Customer Advisory: Adverse Weather Impacts Southern Brazil

As widely reported by various media outlets, the southern region of Brazil is currently facing a significant weather-related crisis in Rio Grande do Sul, leading to dire circumstances in the state's most severely affected cities.

The impact of this weather event extends beyond individual homes, affecting critical infrastructure and logistics. Major disruptions have been observed in transportation networks, with 85 sections of 38 highways either wholly or partially blocked.

Current updates are as follows:

  • Band-Deicmar is scheduled to resume operations on May 14, 2024, for DTA shipments bound for Canoas/RS post-import.
  • Operations in Novo Hamburgo remain suspended until further notice.
  • The closure of Porto Alegre airport is due to flooding in the capital of Rio Grande Sul, with operations indefinitely halted.
  • Import cargo is being accepted in Rio Grande, and ongoing efforts are in place for export shipments of cargo that were delivered before road blockages occurred. However, new processes face challenges due to restricted access and road closures.

We are commited to closely monitoring developments and sharing relevant information with everyone affected.

JAS team members around the world celebrated Earth Month.
JAS Worldwide Celebrates Earth Month with Global Environmental Initiatives

JAS team members worldwide celebrated Earth Month through various activities aimed at promoting sustainability and conservation. From beach cleanups to tree planting, each activity reflected JAS's dedication to making a positive difference in local communities and beyond.

In Germany, China, and Panama, JAS team members joined forces to plant over 1,300 trees. In Germany's Lower Saxony, to promote ecological resilience, employees chose a diverse range of tree species that they knew would thrive in the local climate and soil conditions. Similarly, in Xiamen, China, the JAS branch organized a poignant tree planting event aimed at enriching urban greenery and enhancing the cityscape, reflecting the team's commitment to sustainable development. Meanwhile, in Panama, JAS Panama collaborated with local organizations to plant native trees within the Camino de Cruces National Park, a vital initiative aimed at restoring habitats and preserving the region's rich biodiversity.

Simultaneously, in Taiwan, the Netherlands, Lithuania, and Sweden, JAS team members united their efforts as they cleaned up costal shorelines and forests, embodying their shared commitment to environmental preservation. With gloves on and bags in hand, they combed the beaches, collecting everything from plastic bottles to cigarette butts, restoring the natural beauty of the their local communities.

In Brazil, JAS team members partnered with the NGO Iracambi, and headed into the Atlantic rainforest to engage in various volunteer activities aimed at preserving this vital ecosystem. Through hands-on experiences like tree planting for reforestation and participating in educational workshops on sustainable practices, the Brazil team demonstrated their commitment to protecting biodiversity and promoting environmental awareness.

Andrea Goeman, Senior Vice President of QHSE & Sustainability, commented, "From tree planting to coastal cleanups, our collective actions reflect our dedication to making a real and tangible difference in the communities we serve. Through collaboration and shared responsibility, our teams contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future for generations to come."

As Earth Month ends, JAS Worldwide stands proud of the collective efforts made by our global team to champion environmental stewardship. From tree planting endeavors in Germany, China, and Panama to coastal cleanups in Taiwan, Netherlands, and Sweden, and conservation efforts in Brazil's Atlantic rainforest, each initiative underscores our commitment to safeguarding the planet for future generations. These efforts exemplify the spirit of collaboration and shared responsibility that defines JAS, inspiring us to continue our journey towards a more sustainable world. Together, we are paving the way for a greener, cleaner tomorrow.

By combining efficiency with eco-friendly practices, JAS ECONTAINER not only reduces environmental impact but also offers cost savings and operational efficiencies, driving meaningful change in the industry and paving the way for a greener future, one shipment at a time.
Unlocking Sustainability and Efficiency with JAS ECONTAINER

At JAS, sustainability is a journey we're deeply committed to, and Earth Month serves as an ideal moment to shine a spotlight on initiatives that embody this commitment. One initiative that continues to drive positive change is JAS ECONTAINER, our innovative ocean freight solution designed to enhance operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

Redefining Ocean Freight with JAS ECONTAINER

JAS ECONTAINER combines the efficiency of headload shipments with eco-friendly practices. This approach has been at the forefront of our efforts for some time now, as highlighted by Vice President, Global Head of LCL, Peter Sinka.

"In our ongoing journey towards sustainability, JAS ECONTAINER stands as a testament to our commitment to environmental responsibility," says Sinka. "By encouraging frequent replenishment and eliminating the pressure to fill containers to capacity, JAS ECONTAINER helps shippers reduce inventory costs, optimize warehouse space, and mitigate supply chain disruptions."

The Environmental Imperative

JAS ECONTAINER isn't just about operational efficiency—it's about driving meaningful change in the industry. Sinka emphasizes the product's positive environmental impact, citing its adoption of Marine Biofuel programs through insetting to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint.

"Our goal was to create a product that not only meets modern supply chain challenges but also aligns with our commitment to sustainability," Sinka explains. "By choosing JAS ECONTAINER, shippers not only benefit from cost savings and operational efficiencies but also contribute to a greener, more sustainable future."

A Competitive Edge

Beyond its environmental benefits, JAS ECONTAINER offers a competitive edge in the market. Sinka notes that the product bridges the gap between traditional LCL and FCL offerings, providing cost-effective solutions for shipments ranging from 20 to 50 CBM.

"Traditionally, LCL shipments face competitiveness challenges beyond a certain volume threshold," Sinka observes. "JAS ECONTAINER's pricing methodology ensures cost-effectiveness even for larger shipments, making it a preferred choice for shippers seeking optimal value and sustainability."

Embracing a Greener Future

As businesses worldwide prioritize sustainability and operational efficiency, JAS ECONTAINER emerges as a catalyst for positive change. Its flat-rate pricing model, strategic consolidation strategies, and eco-friendly initiatives not only drive cost savings but also empower shippers to make environmentally conscious choices.

"In a world where sustainability and efficiency go hand in hand, JAS ECONTAINER offers a compelling solution," Sinka concludes. "We invite businesses to join us in embracing a greener future—one shipment at a time."

Jenna Naylor: A Shining Example of JAS's "Homegrown" Talent

Meet Jenna Naylor, a luminary at JAS Charleston, whose journey from a customs entry writer to an award-winning business development manager represents the boundless opportunities for growth within JAS.

Jenna's path into logistics was more serendipitous than planned. Initially set on a career in journalism, envisioning herself as a frontline reporter or news anchor, she pursued this track through her college studies. However, a pivotal moment a month before graduation saw her reevaluating her aspirations. "I understood the communications industry, I had success in my work in college, but I didn't want to be a reporter anymore," she reflects. So, in what many can describe as "typical Jenna fashion," she embraced change and dared herself to explore new uncharted waters, literally.

As fate would have it, her first post-college interview landed her a role at a logistics company, where she started as an ocean import specialist. After mastering this role in 1 year, she eagerly transitioned to export, driven by her innate thirst for new challenges.

In 2014, Jenna joined JAS as a customs entry writer, eventually expanding her responsibilities to manage the Charleston branch's air imports while also diving into the intricacies of the quoting process. Her growing expertise across various domains fueled her hunger for growth. "I had worked in customs entry writing, ocean import, ocean export, air import, and quoting. So, I asked myself again, what can I do next?"

Fueled by her desire to tackle new challenges, Jenna set her sights on sales, leveraging her deep understanding of JAS's services. Her dedication was unmistakable as she pursued and earned her customs brokerage license, underscoring both her ambition and JAS's commitment to nurturing internal talent. She continued her path of success, earning new business and slowly growing her client base.

In a proactive sales approach, Jenna launched the #JavawithJenna series on LinkedIn, leveraging her communication background to attract new audiences and generate leads, flipping the traditional cold-calling approach on its head.

Now, in her newly acquired role as the Head of Country Sales for the Automotive Vertical, Jenna continues her quest for growth, always seeking the next challenge to conquer.

In her nearly ten years at JAS, Jenna has flourished in an environment that she describes as eclectic and welcoming—a true melting pot of diverse backgrounds and perspectives. She credits the unique culture of JAS for fostering an environment where collaboration and growth thrive.

Jenna's leadership style is marked by patience—a quality she believes is integral to navigating the complexities of the logistics industry. Her mentor, Brandon Miller, Vice President of Automotive Sales - Americas, has played a pivotal role in shaping her journey, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and passion in achieving success.

Looking ahead, Jenna's focus is on expanding the automotive vertical, a challenge she embraces with enthusiasm, of course. She finds fulfillment in the dynamic nature of logistics, a field that demands constant learning and adaptability. Her advice to aspiring salespeople echoes her own journey: always be closing, challenge yourself to grow, and find joy both in and outside of work.

Jenna Naylor's story embodies the spirit of Women@JAS, showcasing not just her individual achievements but also the collective strength and support that define the JAS culture. Congratulations, Jenna, on your well-deserved recognition as JAS USA's 2023 Salesperson of the Year and the #1 Global Business Development Manager Earner. Your journey inspires us all to reach greater heights and embrace every opportunity for growth.
