This June, the Bruni Foundation has been busy planting seeds of change and nurturing community spirit across the world.

This June, the Bruni Foundation has been busy planting seeds of change and nurturing community spirit across the world. From the mountains of Peru to the coasts of Indonesia and the heart of Malaysia and Cambodia, this month’s initiatives have brought people together in the spirit of sustainability and support. Here’s a snapshot of how we have been making a difference, one community at a time.

In Peru, the Pay It Forward effort was made possible through a partnership with JAS Peru, Sweet Child Peru, and The Green Heroes Educational Center. The project supported Andean communities by providing environmental education and nutritious meals to children. Community members enjoyed activities such as tree planting and soap making, all centered on sustainability and ecological education.

In Indonesia, the Bruni Foundation funded a mangrove planting event at Taman Wisata Alam (TWA) Mangrove Angke Kapuk. Thirty JAS Indonesia volunteers planted mangrove trees to support coastal protection and biodiversity. This event marked the first sustainability program held by JAS Indonesia in 2024.

In Malaysia, the JAS team participated in a donation drive at a local orphanage, the House of Love.  JAS Malaysia employees provided donations and spent time with the children living at the home. The joy and gratitude shared during this event emphasized the importance of community support.

In Cambodia, JAS and Inter-Campus Cambodia partnered to provide essential educational and sports materials to over 300 children. This included delivering sports equipment, school backpacks, and other learning materials.

Reflecting on the past month, we’re filled with excitement for what is ahead. The Bruni Foundation remains committed to empowering communities through education, environmental stewardship, and social support. We are grateful for the dedication of our volunteers and partners, whose efforts make these initiatives possible. Together, we will continue to make a difference, one project at a time.

JAS Worldwide proudly announces the release of its first sustainability report.

ATLANTA, GA – June 5, 2024 – This World Environment Day, JAS Worldwide, a global leader in logistics and supply chain solutions, proudly announces the release of its first sustainability report. This comprehensive report details the significant strides JAS has made towards environmental stewardship and how it plans to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

Key highlights from the report include:

  • 10% Renewable Electricity Share: JAS has achieved a 10% share of renewable electricity across all its global locations.
  • 12% Emissions Reduction: Since 2021, JAS has successfully reduced its emissions by 12%, exhibiting the company's commitment to lowering its carbon footprint.
  • EcoVadis Recognition: In 2023, JAS was rated among the top 15% of sustainable companies by EcoVadis, underscoring its dedication to sustainability excellence.

"Achieving a more sustainable future. Together." is the mission that guides JAS Worldwide's environmental strategy. The company is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050, through a plan that includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, prioritizing sustainable products and packaging, promoting and implementing clean energy solutions, and enhancing overall efficiency in operations.

JAS Worldwide acknowledges the importance of all 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, as a global logistics company, it has identified six SDGs that particularly resonate with its mission:

  • Affordable and Clean Energy
  • Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Reduced Inequalities
  • Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Climate Action
  • Partnerships for the Goals

In 2023, JAS established a dedicated sustainability team, appointing regional sustainability leads and sustainability ambassadors to drive these initiatives forward. This strategic move has empowered JAS to achieve significant milestones by embodying a global focus on responsible business practices.

"At JAS Worldwide, we are committed to creating a more sustainable future through collective action and innovation," said Andrea Goeman, SVP, Global Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) & Sustainability. "Our inaugural sustainability report not only highlights our accomplishments but also sets the stage for future initiatives that will further our commitment to environmental stewardship."

JAS Hong Kong, with support from partners, repurposed donated factory fabric samples to clothe adults and children in need, reducing fashion waste.

A dedicated team of JAS Hong Kong employees, led by Sustainability Ambassador Gary Ferreira, came together to make an impact in the lives of those less fortunate. Their mission? To repurpose factory fabric samples generously donated by a department store and instead give them to adults and children in need – the impact was twofold – it clothed adults and children in need and reduced waste sent to a landfill.

The JAS employees started by detaching company labels from each item. They then sorted and packaged the fabrics to ensure the garments could be easily distributed to charitable organizations in Hong Kong and the Philippines. The act of kindness was met with smiling and thankful faces.

This collaboration not only helped address material needs but also contributed to reducing fashion waste. This initiative underscores how corporate entities can address social and environmental challenges by leveraging existing resources and expertise.

We are grateful for our retail partner, Inland Corporation, and the Bruni Foundation for their support in ensuring each item reached its intended recipients with care and efficiency. Such achievements are only possible through collective cross-industry efforts.

This initiative is part of the Bruni Foundation's 'Pay it Forward' program, which empowers JAS employees to become ambassadors of change by actively supporting social and environmental causes. Throughout the year, the Bruni Foundation, an integral part of JAS, will support various global projects, primarily focusing on these United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Quality Education, No Poverty, Clean Water and Sanitation, and Zero Hunger. Yet, understanding the current challenges towards the environment and the well-being of societies, the Bruni Foundation also actively supports initiatives that promote responsible environmental stewardship.

Empowering Cambodian youth through the universal language of sports. Inter Campus and partners like the Bruni Foundation unite to inspire hope, education, and teamwork in communities across Cambodia.

PHNOM PENH – For over a decade, Inter Campus has been making a meaningful impact in Cambodia, reaching 235 children residing in the rural outskirts of Phnom Penh and the municipal orphanage in the city of Kompong Thom. Recognizing the universal power of sports as a means for youth development, Inter Campus has been utilizing the pitch as a classroom, instilling invaluable life skills, complemented by educational support.

In an exciting partnership, Inter Campus is teaming up with the Bruni Foundation, the philanthropic arm of JAS Worldwide, to reinforce their efforts in Cambodia and breathe new life into prevention and development activities across the Asian continent.

Together with Missione Possibile and Il Nodo Onlus, the organizations will provide sustained support to clinics, training sessions, and leisure projects that cater to hundreds of children daily, offering them structured recreational opportunities tailored to their unique needs.

The Bruni Foundation shares a deep conviction in the transformative power of sports, viewing it as a catalyst for redemption, protection, and the promotion of human rights, particularly for marginalized communities. This aligns perfectly with Inter Campus' mission, rooted in the belief that every child, regardless of their circumstances, deserves the fundamental Right to Play.

Inter Campus operates as a beacon of hope in local communities, championing educational, social, and health initiatives. Through the universal language of football, they empower children in rural areas worldwide, fostering dialogue, mutual assistance, and teamwork.

As we embark on this collaborative journey, JAS Worldwide and Inter Campus are committed to making a real difference in the lives of Cambodian youth, ensuring they can thrive and realize their full potential, both on and off the pitch.

JAS Colombia and the Bruni Foundation worked with local NGO El Banquete del Bronx to help support the Emberá community.

The Emberá people are an indigenous community primarily residing in Colombia, with approximately 50,000 individuals identifying as part of this group. Due to factors such as armed conflict and mining exploitation in their ancestral territories, many Emberá have been forced to leave and migrate to major cities like Bogotá. Despite some support in the capital city of the country, the Emberá community faces discrimination, and efforts to provide basic necessities such as clean water and food are insufficient.

Women and children in the Emberá community are particularly affected by these challenges. Forced to leave their lands, they grapple with societal indifference, language barriers (as Spanish is not their native language), and the struggle to preserve their cultural identity.

Recognizing the need to support local communities, JAS Colombia collaborated with 'El Banquete del Bronx', a local NGO, to visit one of the Emberá settlements in Bogotá. The activity included providing food, hygiene kits and, above all, sharing moments of joy with the little ones by drawing and playing games. This initiative is part of the Bruni Foundation's 'Pay it Forward' program, which empowers JAS employees to become ambassadors of change by actively supporting social and environmental causes.

The event began with a presentation by the local NGO to JAS employees, aiming to raise awareness about the situation of the Emberá and other minority groups – and the reasons behind their migration to urban areas. The presentation underscored the role of every citizen in bringing some hope, aiding their adaptation process, and, more broadly, fostering respect for ethnic communities.

Addressing some of the challenges women and children face within the Emberá community is only one of the initiatives toward a more inclusive and sustainable future that the Bruni Foundation is committed to. Throughout the year, the Bruni Foundation will support various global projects, primarily focusing on these United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Quality Education, No Poverty, Clean Water and Sanitation, and Zero Hunger.

JAS Indonesia Team at the Local School, Sharing Books and Smiles on International Literacy Day 2023.

JAS Indonesia, in partnership with the Bruni Foundation, marked International Literacy Day (ILD) by organizing the "Book Donations for World Literacy Day" event on September 8, 2023. Led by JAS Sustainability Ambassador Sigit Yulianto, this event exemplified the team's dedication to championing literacy as a fundamental human right and their commitment to positively impacting the community.

Held at a local school, the ILD event showcased the incredible potential of collective community action. Its success was driven by a joint effort: prior to the event, the JAS office initiated a book donation campaign among its employees, and a group of JAS Indonesia colleagues volunteered to represent JAS at the local school. However, the event went beyond mere book donations; the team also shared food, drinks, and moments of joy, fostering an atmosphere of unity that enriched the day.

The teams' actions serve as a reminder that when individuals and organizations unite for a common purpose, they can create positive change. Literacy is not merely about reading; it is a pathway to a brighter future for all.

The Sustainability Ambassadors at JAS play a key role in spearheading and executing sustainability initiatives. They are driven by a passion for creating a more sustainable organization and work closely with the Worldwide sustainability team and key stakeholders. Their expertise and influence serve as catalysts for transformation, inspiring and guiding others to contribute to a greener and more inclusive future.

International Literacy Day has been observed globally on September 8 since 1967, emphasizing the significance of literacy as a basic human right. It also serves as a call to advance progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) on education and lifelong learning.

JAS Team Members Across the Globe Take Action for a More Sustainable Future.

JAS is committed to a sustainable future, and as part of this commitment, JAS team members all across the globe participated in local sustainability initiatives. As part of our Earth Day initiative employees were encouraged to take action and make a positive impact in their communities.

In Mexico, team members spearheaded a recycling initiative in partnership with ECOCE, collecting PET bottles and cans. The recycled materials were exchanged for an electronic voucher, which was donated to a local public institution in exchange for food that could be distributed to the community. Similarly, in Guangzhou, China, JAS held a clothing recycling collection to reduce their environmental impact.

JAS team members and their families also participated in coastal clean-up events across the globe, collecting hundreds of kilograms of plastic debris, litter, and other waste. By preventing these materials from polluting oceans, rivers, and lakes, the team is helping to preserve animal life and the beauty of our planet. For example, in Qingdao, China, over 20 team members cleaned up 16,000 square meters of public space and removed 20 kgs of garbage.

Andrea Goeman, SVP of Sustainability at JAS, emphasized JAS’ proactive approach to sustainability and its dedication to environmental initiatives. "We believe in taking a proactive and approach to sustainability and creating a positive impact in the communities where we live and work. This Earth Day, we are proud of everyone’s efforts to create a sustainable future for all," she said.

These global initiatives are just a few examples of JAS' commitment to sustainability and our efforts to make a positive difference in their communities. Together we are creating a greener and cleaner tomorrow!

JAS Worldwide Bruni Foundation today announce their partnership with charity: water to as they work to provide clean and safe water to those in need.

In honor of World Water Day, JAS Worldwide (JAS) and the Bruni Foundation today announced their partnership with charity: water to provide clean and safe water to those in need.

The theme of World Water Day 2023 is "Water for Life and Livelihoods," which helps highlight the importance of water for life, economic development, and the environment. The United Nations (UN) reports that 771 million people worldwide live without access to clean water, which is essential for the health and well-being of individuals and communities.

JAS, the Bruni Foundation, and charity: water are committed to making a difference in the lives of those affected by the global water crisis. The first phase of the partnership will deploy a $100,200 gift from the Bruni Foundation, which will fully fund two clean and safe water projects in India and Mozambique.

In Mozambique, this partnership will fund new community wells and handpumps across provinces in the Northeast of Mozambique and provide access to clean and safe water for more than 800 people. In India, the funds will support rainwater harvesting in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, Western India, helping to provide clean and safe water access to over 250 people.

These initiatives will make a tangible impact in the lives of those in the local communities where the projects are being funded and are just the first step in the commitment to the cause.
